The Association of Tourist Apartments of Barcelona (Apartur) and the Catalan Federation of Tourist Apartments (Federatur) have harshly criticized the new regulation of the Generalitat that requires obtaining a prior license to operate tourist apartments. They consider that this measure is "irresponsible" and puts 50% of tourism in Catalonia at risk, as well as jobs, commerce and restaurants related to this sector. They also argue that this measure amounts to an expropriation without compensation and that the Government has not consulted with the sector before presenting it.
The sector is concerned about the repercussions of this regulation and asks that its opinion be taken into account before taking measures that could have a significant impact on tourism in Catalonia.
