The new regulations on tourist apartments divide the Girona government

The decree law to regulate housing for tourist use in 262 Catalan municipalities announced by the Generalitat of Catalonia has divided the government of Girona. On the one hand, we gain a positive voice over the new regulations that set a limit of 10 tourist-use homes per 100 inhabitants. The Deputy Mayor and Councilor for Economic Promotion, Gemma Geis, was "surprised" by the announcement of the decree law and detailed that "it is very green." Even so, she pointed out that the new regulations must go "in parallel with other measures to promote officially protected housing", such as the Territorial and Sectoral Housing Plan.

In any case, the City Council will also have to study how this regulation of the Generalitat affects the one approved by the council in the municipal plenary session last September. This sets a limit of 4% of housing for tourist use throughout the city, but 15% for the different sectors. The new regulations of the Generalitat "do not make it clear" whether this limit of 10 homes for tourist use per 100 inhabitants can be done by sectors.

Even so, Andreu was clear and pointed out that if this new approval allowed the City Council "to be more restrictive in some areas (such as the Old Town)", she would take advantage of this tool. A “very hasty” decree Cristina Andreu spoke through the media yesterday morning in the Plaza del Vino. And Juntos has a quite different position from that of Guanyem regarding the decree law of the Generalitat. Geis explained to Diario de Girona that the decree law is "very hasty" and takes "little account of the diversity of the municipalities and the different cases." Geis does affirm that they have to "set some limits" and she is in favor of "policies for the right to housing", but everything has to be done "listening to the people in the sector and with criteria."
