Girona City Council and the Catalan Land Institute (Incasòl) have signed an agreement to grant the right of superficies for 75 years to the plots of land in the Bajo de Domeny Plan with the aim of building 88 social housing flats. Work is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2025, and the project has been selected to receive up to 2.1 million euros from Next Generation funds. The initiative is part of the government's programme to add 10,000 homes to Catalonia's social rental stock by 2026.
The two residential blocks, with a ground floor plus three floors, will include 48 and 40 homes each. The project stands out for its efficiency and sustainability, with a clustered approach, materials and construction systems that prioritise cross-ventilation and a demanding climatic proposal. The dwellings will be adapted for people with reduced mobility, and the City Council will have eight flats to meet social needs, as well as a 150 square metre premises.
The flats will be allocated as social rentals in accordance with the criteria established with Girona City Council, and the Catalan Housing Agency will be responsible for the administration, conservation and maintenance of the flats, which will be owned by Incasòl. Both the director of Incasòl and the deputy mayor of Girona stress the importance of increasing the public housing stock.
