A semester of optimism

During the first half of 2023, the construction sector in the Girona area has experienced a significant increase of 30.66% in the creation of new housing compared to the same period in 2022. This increase is attributed to two major projects of multi-family developments.

The counties of Alt Empordà and Baix Empordà and Pla de l'Estany have stood out with the greatest increase, while other counties such as Gironès, Garrotxa and Selva have experienced a decrease in this activity.

As for the total surface area approved for housing, it has grown by 10.75%, representing 19.78% of the total in Catalonia. The most outstanding counties in this respect are Baix Empordà, Alt Empordà, Gironès, La Selva and La Garrotxa.

In terms of the distribution between new construction and refurbishment, despite an increase of 15.54% in refurbishment, the weight of the construction sector still falls mainly on new construction, with 64% of the surface area used.

In general, these data suggest a certain optimism in the construction sector in Girona during this first half of the year, with prospects still to be revealed for the second half of 2023.
