Data provided by the National Statistics Institute show that home sales in Girona experienced a drop of 5.3% in January compared to the same month of the previous year. This decrease amounted to 1,333 operations, with 247 new homes and 1,086 second-hand homes, of which 1,301 were free and 32 were officially protected. However, if compared to the operations of the previous month, December 2023, there was an increase of 53.2%.
In Catalonia as a whole, home sales increased by 1.4% in the same period, reaching a total of 8,986 operations. Of these, 1,561 homes were new and 7,425 second-hand, with 8,319 under free regime and 667 under official protection. Compared to the previous month, operations increased by 56.6%.
At the state level, home sales decreased by 2.1% annually in January, with a total of 54,346 operations, although they showed a significant increase of 48.1% compared to the previous month, December.
Regarding the distribution by autonomous communities, Castilla-La Mancha, Castilla-León and Galicia stood out with increases of 25.8%, 21.1% and 20.5% respectively. On the other hand, La Rioja, the Community of Madrid and the Basque Country were those that experienced the most pronounced declines, with falls of -12.8%, -11.6% and -11.5% respectively.
