Rent has increased by 106% in Girona in the last decade

Rent has increased by 106% in Girona in the last decade. The price of rent in Girona has experienced a notable increase in the last decade, with an increase of 106% since 2014, according to a report by *Fotocasa. This figure positions Girona as the Catalan provincial capital with the most pronounced increase in rental prices.

The same report reveals that, on average, the price of rent in the four provincial capitals of Catalonia has increased by more than 80% in the last decade. In Barcelona, the most expensive city to rent, the increase has been 88%; to Tarragona, 71%; and in Lleida, 60%.

An 80 square meter apartment in the capital of Girona has seen an increase in rental prices from 586 euros per month ten years ago to around 1,200 euros currently. In addition, other municipalities such as Badalona and l'Hospitalet de Llobregat have also experienced significant increases, with an increase of 112% and 109% respectively in the last decade.

The entry into force of the price index created by the Government of Catalonia aims to try to stop the escalation of rental prices in the region. According to Maria Matos, director of studies and spokesperson for Fotocasa, prices in Catalan towns are at maximum levels after a significant warming caused by the impact of the pandemic. Furthermore, Matos points out that the increase in rent prices seems to be unabated, which represents an obstacle for many participants in this market, estimated at 40%.
