The Government of Catalonia has approved a new regulation for tourist apartments that requires licenses to be renewed every five years, limits the number of apartments per inhabitant and restricts activity in saturated municipalities. This measure affects 262 municipalities with 90% of the tourist apartments in Catalonia and seeks to put an end to the monopoly and speculation in this market. The town councils will issue the licenses, but the Government will supervise the urban modifications.
Apartments without a license will be sanctioned. The regulations will come into force immediately.
