The news provided by La Vanguardia makes us think that the formula of income less expenses is no longer valid for a good part of the population, since expenses have increased by 30% while income has increased by 12%. This means that three million households remain below the severe poverty line once housing and basic supplies have been paid for.
In just five years, the percentage of families with this case has experienced a notable increase, reaching 6.6% in 2022 (more than 1.2 million households). There is also a notable increase in the number of families residing in unsafe housing, reaching 23.2% in 2021, which implies that more than 4.2 million households live in shared or rented apartments without a contract in force or in a situation of eviction.
In parallel, the number of families that live in inadequate housing, those that do not meet the minimum decent conditions for daily life, has also experienced a worrying increase, going from 25% in 2018 to 30% in 2021 (5.6 million families).
